Center Harbor Fireworks Postponed to July 5th Due to Expected Rain

Our 4th of July Parade is still on at the moment and a decision will be made late tonight if it will be postponed. The forecast is rather iffy for tomorrow.

As of 9 AM Moultonboro town website announced the Moultonboro parade is canceled....AND. Long Island Beach closed, Bacteria...WOW

This is the first time I can recall the LI beach being closed and I am old.

Info In A Cloud ? said...

Could be the first time they have tested it ....town is very secretive about water testing...after all, it is our tourist bread and butter.
Public info on testing schedules, and results will need work before we spend $ 550,000 to rake the dead leaves on the bottom of States Landing Beach..
If Long Island is closed, you have to wonder about SLB! In a more stagnant sheltered area.

it says closed due to:
SAMPLES COLLECTED 7/2/2014 EXCEEDED THE STATE STANDARD FOR FECAL BACTERIA. THE ADVISORY REMAINS UNTIL BACTERIA COUNTS ARE BELOW THE STATE STANDARD. RESAMPLING 7/7/14, NEW RESULTS 7/8/2014.

Hope this is Goose Poop... When this " settles " out, it would be great to see a statement here from our Town Admin, with an explanation and possible remediation. More important then he building his gym.

States Landing Beach maybe a more "stagnant sheltered area" however States Landing has much fewer incidents of testing positive for coliform bacteria than Long Island beach.

Go Figure, What is your mindset here? Think it a good idea to invest $ 1 1/2 million into StatesLanding Beach and then find out about a fecal bacteria issue?
Are you confident we are getting the health and water inspections the public beach needs? Can you share your source of info with us?

Despite all GREAT intentions, getting a Code Red alert from Carter this HOLIDAY morning while people were sleeping in @ 6:58 am to tell us the parade was cancelled is a bit of overkill. A call around 8 or 9 would have probably sufficed for an 11am parade. Yes, we want the emergency alerts on storms, etc, but before 7am on a holiday for an 11am parade does not make a lot of sense as an emergency.

Anon at 12:04.....

Why do you make such ridiculous baseless claims with no justification ?? What do you know that would lend one shred of evidence to your statement? Do you think the TA is hiding DES test results in a locked vault?

As a person who needed to organize their people and finish our float I was glad to get the early call to save notify all concerned promptly

We had several friends end up with "duck itch" last week at LI beach. People still feeding ducks, geese etc... Does not help with the poop problem. Also for those us who were part of the parade, that early call was most appreciated, takes time to finish decorating and organizing the participants. Don' t often agree with the TA, but this was a good call!

Most people, especially visitors, enjoy feeding ducks and geese and are unaware that duck poop = swimmers itch. Suggestion, post signs at the beaches and boat ramps as a way to educate the general public.

Agree with the general consensus here that the TA's call that the parade was cancelled was a good one. It was early in the morning, but a lot of people were looking forward to attending and marching. If he made call later people would complain it was too late.

Thank you Carter!
