"Study: Taylor property best site for possible gym" ?? Meredtith News August 21st 2014

To begin, I do appreciate that the Meredith News did provide coverage of some recent Moultonboro meetings , front page no less, but the headline is not quite accurate. The article that follows the headline does explain that the final decision was to use only part of the Taylor property, but the impression picking up the paper was just the opposite.
Purchasing the Taylor property was somewhat contentious and the selectboard at the time was clear that no plans were in place for the property if we purchased it, so the last thing the public would want to hear just 5 months later would be that it was chosen as the best site for the proposed gym. It wasn't. The BRC site study team was very clear that preserving the property for some future was important, and we wanted to minimize the use of it as much as possible. The final approved plan includes the back part of the Taylor property for some parking and a sliver for a possible access road to Rt. 25. The entirety of the building foot print is on the adjacent school property.

Would the BOS please read this to the Town Administrator. At the site decisssion meeting he mentioned five times using the Taylor property for commercial development. This is against the publics wishes as determined in the Taylor use committee. People wanted open space. Need to rein him in.

The red patch in the picture is a footprint of a 22,000 sq ft building. Size not determined yet, may be up to 36,000 sq ft. The two little white patches denote future expansion. Can you imagine not building a corner of your house, and calling it future expansion? For sure, these are just prototypes, but you have to wonder where that bright idea came from.
Plan has NO space for outdoor play area...we are told they will share with the school...a novel forbidden idea. No location Speced on the drawing for the septic and septic field. The archetect said that would be sized for 500 users. Do we have that many students ?

Absolutely no faith that our town administration will be able to build this properly, or maintain it. All this is being colated by the Town Administrator, who has no regard for other people's professional knowlege or wishes. He is driven by control, and this will prevent using a knowlegable building committee. The goal is " push it thru " We will be left holding the bag.

Will our town fathers ever learn this simple maxim? "Don't put the cart before the horse!"

Selectmen Shipp, Wakefield & Tolman are desperate to built a new gym absent real usage numbers or a demonstrated need.

The UNH team are but a rubber stamp. Have our Selectmen lost all logic and common sense? And what's wrong with the Town Administrator? Instead of pointing out the obvious he's leading the parade. Is it because shepherding through this facility will look good on his resume?

Selectman Punturieri is the only member on the Select Board who has a grip on reality. It's hard to tell where Selectman Mudgett stands but we can only hope he does his due diligence and not sell out to the I want it crowd.

How Big, I believe the two little additions are for a commercial kitchen & dining room.

Kitchen...the cover sheet of the site package had a sketch of a floor plan, including a kitchen next to the one small public room, perhaps the dining room. With this sketch, all pretext of being a community center - gym is gone. It is strictly a gym, with support locker rooms, a very big storage area, an even bigger reception and administration office, and one small game room, for a pool table, a foosball table and Pingpong. That will be tight. The gym it's self looks to be 80 X 120 ft or so. Real early on this..will be changed many times.
Main point here is the 2 tiny expansion spaces...something like that is never done, due to the huge cost of contractor coming back to do the work. Can't imagine the building planner not knowing that.

Village Vision meets tomorrow to talk about their plans and the gym. Hope they consider spinning the building around, so the gym room faces the back of the Taylor property. This would give us some indoor and outdoor space for functions on the town green, and parking for 300 cars or so, in the school, AND indoor plumbing for functions too. With septic setup for 500 users, they will have to reach out to all comers.
