Haven't signed up yet?

Off to the right of this post is information for the new Moultonboro Sounding Board. I had hoped more would sign up as it's main purpose is to share information.
I would encourage you to check out the Sandwich Board. It is a great way to exchange information, from looking for a chest freezer to a local storyteller at the Corner House. A missing dog to dog poop found in a plastic bag. Election results, meetings, whatever. Almost 1,200 members in Sandwich and it has become the main way people communicate Sandwich happenings in cyberspace.
What are you waiting for?

It's a good idea in theory.
A virtual public square.

But in reality it's not going to work. For me anyway.

Maybe for the younger generation. But those are already overbooked on social media.

I guard my privacy.
There is malware out there and web data miners. That scoop up everything.

So your public posting may show up anywhere at any time.

There is a picture of a local young gal (adult) nude on almost everyone's cell phone here in town. I really don't think that she thought that this photo would go this far.

I'm not on any social media.
Some in the business world do need linkden and such. But other then business requirements, placing your name on any posting is a fool's world - open for others (web sites) and nefarious folks to abuse.

No, no thank you.

"I'm not on any social media."

But many are ... some doing foolish things ... others, conscious of today's world, and act accordingly.

There are many types of media:

not for me; I don't care when you pass wind, in less than 140 characters.

Maybe, for voyeurism and narcissism.
OOOPPS! Too harsh ... families post to each other! I don't participate, although I have an account.

Specific topic forums:
How to's ...; LinkedIn etc.

Winni forum:
Sure ... especially restaurants

If you've got something to hide ... don't put it out there!

We should worry more about BIG BROTHER (Govt.) than social media.

Since you are using the internet, hackers are more interested in your credit cards, and bank accounts, than who voted for sidewalks! :)

I'm not sure what the concern is in this case about privacy or hackers but Sandwich Board users have been active on their board since 1996 or so with 1200 participants and good results. With all due respect, I believe that your concerns are unfounded. This board is nothing like Facebook or Twitter. Your email address is no more vulnerable than you house address which is already public knowledge. Joe C's advice is good.

Using Yahoo as the service and requiring real names, while a good idea, creates a problem. In my case, I use a fake name on Yahoo, and it is clunky to have multiple accounts - one for the town board and another for the wild west internet.

Sandwich Board works yes - but I agree with 'Battle Fatigue' above that our climate in Moultonboro, thanks in part to this private Blog, is too sour.

For those that prefer the Mary Poppins news, read the Meredith paper.
Clare Booth Luce quote : there are two kinds of people in this world, optimists, and pessimists. The pessimists are better informed.
Please do not disparage the group that is working very hard to keep the public aware of what is going on.
