The world is just not a peaceful place no matter the season.
We see unimaginable acts of terror and violence nearly every day it seems, and then something even worse happens. And then we become numb to the news, accepting even.
The new normal.
As a Christian who will be celebrating the birth of the Prince of Peace on this day with fellow believers around the world, it has become increasingly more difficult to remember this is the real reason for the season. It sure does test ones faith.
No matter your religious beliefs though, we all too often forget that we are all human beings, the same species. Under the various colors of our skin and ethnicity, all around the globe, we are all basically the same.
Maybe its as simple as that. Just remembering that we are not really all that different and accepting that fact. When tragedy occurs somewhere in the world like has recently occurred with the massacre of 147 innocent children in Pakistan, remember that their parents grieve and hurt just the same as anyone else. We should grieve as well . We need to stick together and never forget that we are all in this together.
A bit of a somber message for this very special day, but the world is a very somber and increasingly dangerous place.
I'm optimistic though. There are more of " us" than there are of "them." Instead of focusing on our differences, how about we seek to find out what we have in common? Maybe, just maybe, we can then truly " increase the peace."
