I'm no math genius, nor do I need my MBA to dwell on:

25,000 sq. ft. X $100/sq.ft. =
$2.5 million dollars for construction; add 20% for "inside stuff" =$3 million dollars.

25,000 sq. ft. X $150 sq.ft. =
$3.75 million dollars; add 20% =
$4.5 million dollars.

That's in 2015 dollars. What will be the tally when construction contracts are signed ; ... a hell of a lot more.

Which is OK ... if the town believes we need another Gym.

Don't forget we're a Republic ... except for town meeting day and elections ... then we are, for a day, a Democracy where "majority rules".

You know ... like a lynch mob!

:) :) :) :)

It may be interesting to know that I was told the estimate for the NH Dept. of Safety Building at Glendale came in at $233 per square foot. That would make the total in the neighborhood of $5,800,000.

I don't know the quality of finish, which can make a large difference, but I would guess our gym/rec. building would be similar.

I think it would be prudent to check numbers quoted at the meeting of the BRC Site Study.

I would think that everyone would want to make sure that, regardless of their thoughts on the need, citizens would want to have an accurate idea on how much money we would be spending.

The Town Administrators own estimate was about $ 238
PSF. That is lowball too. How the $ 100 to $ 150 figure was posted should be investigated for deliberately misleading voters.

Do you all remember a few months go when our paid Landscape/ Community Devo expert said the committee got this wrong, and missed an opportunity to tie the facility to the Taylor property to facilitate a community park. Once again, we do piecemeal building..and ignore...can not wait..for the Village vision committee report...And will not consider a building committee, as town hall does not want to loose control of the project.
Town hall has stated Taylor land should be used for commercial development. How much tax money do you want to spend to let town hall dabble in commercial real estate? So many wanted open space...

C'mon Joe, you know for sur it will be more than the low ball estimates. It will be a case of "ya might as well.." Consider how poorly the two most recent town buildings were done. what do i care tho, you wealthy lakeside owners can pay for it. We appreciate it!

Are there any more warrant articles this year concerning this recreation complex/gymnasium?

Hello Mark...there is'nt a Rec Gym on this years Town Meeting warrants. The clock ran down, no time to examine the U N H report proir to warrant hearings. This may have been a skillful manipulation, the UNH report could not see our small town supporting this facility, so it may have been decided to leave the negative report in the drawer, and try again next year for a warrant.
Tricks like this are common at Town Hall, tho not involving the BOS....they are too busy to follow all the minutia.

Report is online:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwQxHoh6XNZGT2k2MmJBYmoyTG8/view?pli=1

Five (5) recommendations on pages 31-36.

Ironic that the last recommendation, the 5th, is to prepare a warrant article to build the Gym.

...INITIAL PHASE around $6 million dollars.

... Operating costs @ $150,000-$180,000 per year.

... best time to build 2018.

I'll stop here, before my eyes glaze-over, and get red, with these soothsayers. Good data ... but let others determine what is good "information". Not the same.

MoBo ... a Mecca of outdoor activity. "Kids ... got to have more indoor gym space (or office space) for dwindling "kid" demographic ... that is, if they're not on their X-boxes and smart phones.

I, indeed, did come from a different world.

We heard ... "go out and play ... and don't get hit by a car".

Similar to what folks advise today (about me):

"I hope he gets hit by a big yellow bus".

Happy Friday the 13th; one of three this year!
