Press Release April 17, 2015
Miller Environmental Education Fund
The Miller Environmental Education
Fund is pleased to announce the funding recipients for 2015. Funding was given
to the lakes Region Conservation Trust for the Red Hill Trails Project. Moultonborough Academy students will
participate in the creation of an interpretive sign for the summit and families
from the Harvest Church of Moultonborough will work with the LRCT installing
new trail markers. The Red Hill Conservation Area is extremely popular and
provides a wonderful opportunity to educate residents and visitors about the
natural and human history and the geography of the property and the
region. Once in place, the new trail and
signs will provide great educational opportunities for Moultonborough youth and
visitors alike.
Funding
was also provided to the Sandwich Children’s Center to further develop outdoor
learning centers as part of a permanent outdoor classroom while they work
toward their national certification as a Nature Explorer classroom. Grant funds
will allow the SCC to upgrade some existing outdoor space with new materials
increasing student’s time outside and enhancing the outdoor experiences.
The Miller Environmental Education
Fund was developed in 2007 out of a profound appreciation for the service and
dedication of Michele Miller, former principal of Moultonborough Central School
and the 2006 NH Environmental Educator of the Year award recipient.
