Permit Required for Raffles

One of the agenda items at our Thursday work sessions, was review for approval of an Administrative policy to issue permits for raffles held within the boundaries of Moultonboro. According to RSA 287-A:1: ""Raffle'' means a lottery in which each participant buys a ticket for an article or articles put up as a prize with the winner being determined by a random drawing." 
RSA 287-A:7  requires  "Any charitable organization desiring to conduct a raffle under the provisions of this chapter shall first obtain a permit therefor from the selectmen or designee of the town.."
This RSA has been on the books for quite some time and even though some on the BoS ( myself included) thought it to be unnecessary, the law requires us to issue raffle permits. So, effective immediately, the Town Administrator has been authorized to issue such permits ( at no charge) as per NH law.
