The Shrinking Lake

After just one mild winter and a dryer than normal spring and summer, Lake Winnipesaukee is showing the effects. I went down to Balmoral earlier today to see for myself and took these pictures. It does show how fragile the lake can be.  Not much we can do about the weather, but we can and must continue to protect our most precious natural resource. Hopefully we will have a normal winter and a wet spring.

You can clearly see where the shoreline used to be . Water used to come all the way to the bushed on the upper left.

The water is only inches deep in the boat slips. The waters edge should be in some areas 15-20 feet more inland.

You can see States Landing in the not too far distance. I took the picture while standing a fair distance out on a now exposed sand bar.

This river between Balmoral and States Landings has always been marshy, but  much of it is now dry.

Now would be a good time to do the dredging at States Landing.
