Just One More Thing

Last post on candidates night. So there is no confusion or misunderstanding, all our private roads are plowed by private contractors. Essentially the same five contractors we have used in recent years, using their own equipment, and town supplied sand/salt.

Town roads are plowed by town employees using town equipment. No one has made any complaints on any of the town roads being plowed. None. We ( BoS) have said a number of times that town employees have done a great job this winter.

To my knowledge, we have no open positions in the highway department or DPW. There have been open positions in the recent past, but all have been filled and are at full staff.

Speaking of snow, there is some in the forecast for election day next Tuesday, so please get an absentee ballot and send it in if you do not want to come out in the snow.

I am not sure that not wanting to come out in the snow is a valid reason to use an absentee ballot. According to the instructions on the absentee ballot form:

"I. New Hampshire law requires that you vote in person at the polling place for your town or ward unless you:
a. Plan to be absent on the day of the election from the city, town, or unincorporated place in which you are registered to
b. Cannot appear in public on Election Day because of observance of a religious commitment.
c. Are unable to vote in person due to a disability.
d. Cannot appear at any time during polling hours at your polling place because an employment obligation requires you to
remain physically at work or to be in transit to or from work from the time the polls open until after the time the polls

Am I missing something?

Anon- many elderly that regularly vote won't drive in the snow if they don't have to. An absentee ballot is a reasonable accommodation. It may not fit perfectly in the rules, but as with most things, it is subject to interpretation.
