Update on County Budget

The County budget has been finalized. The expenditures have gone up but so has revenue and the amount to be raised by taxes is about $20,000.00 less than last year. Our ( Moultonboro) county portion will be going down about $4,600.00. Definitely moving in the right direction.

I would hope that the County administration has financial control programs in place to tightly watch revenues and expenditures. Seems to me that the last debacle centered around budgeted revenue shortfalls. At the very instant that revenues fall off or expenditures exceed budgets and do not match total year projections, it is incumbent on all involved to reduce expenditures so that there is no need for a special assessment. This message should be delivered to all involved. And our BOS should be requesting monthly SIMPLE reports of how the county is doing financially. By SIMPLE, I mean ONE piece of paper that visually captures the 3-5 key measurements for success.....expenses, revenues, headcount, etc. with a one page backup for each major function...Sheriff & Dispatch, Jail, Nursing Home, Deeds, DPW, and all other in the same format. Simple.....but visually responsive. Businesses call them "Dashboards". Today there is way too much paper and detail.

and color code them red, yellow or green to attract the eyes to the areas of concern.
